We are a professional, educational regional theatre, and proud of our 30-plus year history of award-winning theatre for family audiences and our extensive education programs fro both schools and individuals. NYSTI’s mission includes a firm commitment to developing new plays and musicals, and throughout the years, we have produced forty-five premieres – most of which we have originated. Many of our works have continued on to other regional theatres, major performing arts centers, Off-Broadway and Broadway, been produced as audiobooks, and published by Samuel French, Inc.
We are dedicated to fostering international cultural exchange. NYSTI has performed in Moscow, London, Israel, Jordan, Italy, Canada, France, and Sweden, and we have welcomed companies and artists from those and many other countries. This season we will welcome back Swedish actress Cicilia Sedvall in the role of Pippi Longstocking. Commissioned by Teater Västmanland to celebrate the centennial of author Astrid Lindgren’s birth, “Who is Pippi Longstocking?” is written by playwright and frequent NYSTI actress, Mary Jane Hansen. It will have its world premiere in Sweden and then its American premiere at NYSTI in May with a run continuing into June.
